August 19, 2022 – First Day of College

Today I entered a new and exciting chapter in my life; I started my first semester at Washington University in St. Louis. I was a bit nervous, but I quickly settled in after the move-in day a couple of days ago. I included a pic of my dorm room, which turned out great! I had not updated Outreach Astronomy in a while and was at a crossroads regarding where I wanted to take the site. Since I started it in 2020, I have been incredibly proud of my accomplishments. I have raised over $27,000 for science education, including textbooks, curriculum enrichment, and basic needs often overlooked in strained budgets. As a very young child, I became fascinated by the workings of the human body after overcoming my own physical limitations with speech. In 2019, I volunteered at a local hospital and was certain that it would be my future. When the pandemic hit, I was no longer allowed into the hospital, and photography and astronomy filled the time when the world seemed to stop. As I begin my first semester, I will rediscover my love of medicine and help people navigate their own healthy lives. I am sure I will be very busy with coursework, but I am confident Outreach Humanity will thrive serving the underserved people of St. Louis and my own hometown!
